Taplet announced today the release of its iPhone app enabling users to pull out stunning, highquality photos from videos using world class imaging technology.
“Either the ‘perfect’ photo is a myth or I’m terrible at taking pictures. I was at a basketball game and just couldn’t take any cool photos. How could I know that in 8 seconds LeBron would throw up a gorgeous dunk?” explains founder & CEO Dustin Pourbaba. “In life there’s all these epic moments unfolding but they happen quicker than we can react. I started Taplet with the backwards idea of letting people pull HD photos out of videos so they could more easily capture life’s magic.”
BEAUTIFUL AND INTUITIVE
Through an incredibly intuitive interface, users record or upload iPhone, GoPro, Snapchat or any other footage and simply tap the screen to pull out their favorite pictures. Taplet then uses lightning fast imaging technology to render and beautify the images. After the photos are processed, which is handled securely and locally on the device, users can save their pictures or directly share them to popular social networks.
ALLSTAR LIST OF INVESTORS
Taplet also announced that is has raised a $1 million seed round from an allstar list of investors including Def Jam cofounder Russell Simmons, GSI Commerce founder Michael Rubin, CAA Sports cohead Michael Levine, and other strategic partners in media and entertainment. “Video is the oxygen of new media and converting moments of video into timeless images is irresistible,” said Simmons. “The young social mediasavvy team in my media company, All Def Digital, couldn’t stop using Taplet so I’m excited to be an investor.”
During its private beta, Taplet had over 500 influential pro-surfers and athletes, models, musicians, photographers, and studio executives using the app to capture amazing photos otherwise not attainable given limitations with traditional photography. “From an idea sparked during a basketball game, Taplet has evolved and we’re now seeing drone pilots taking breathtaking photos, parents capturing timeless images of their kids, digital creatives producing unbelievable content, and so much more. We,ve only had a glimpse of what’s to come,” said Pourbaba.
Taplet is FREE in the App Store. It’s iPhone only and works with iOS 7+. There is an in-app purchase of $.99 to remove the watermark. I’m not sure what the photo resolution is saves are but if you get the app, please let me know. This app is made for people who like to take snap shots from their videos.
