Today I’m going to SKEW things out with you all. I recently got my hands on a new correction perspective app by Thirtyfive Inc called SKEW. I had a really nice conversation with the developer about his app. What I like about the app is correction barrel distortion is the fact you pull on 4 corners rather than using a rotating tilt dial to correct the distortion. Every time I’ve used other apps (who will remain nameless) the photos always seems off to me. I’ve got two corners corrected but the two are off. SKEW has changed that for me. I actually like using the app to correction some of the fisheye photos.
Now before I start my overview with SKEW, here are two photos of a before and after using SKEW. I tooth this shot with my Olloclip Fisheye. As you can see I wanted to just take out the black vignette corners and straighten the photo just a bit but maintain the roundness. I like to keep some barrel distortion because it defeats the purpose when taking out the barrel distortion completely using a fisheye or wide angle lens.
I’m opening up the app SKEW, pretty simple operation. You can either take a photo or load a photo. I wanted to add that when you load or take that maximum size of the changed shape Image is 4096 X 4096 and output photo is cropped from changed shape Image proportionally. So in others words when you slice away at the photo you will loose resolution but still have a really good resolution save.
You load up you photo and I want to get rid of the black vignette corners and straighten the photo a little but not a lot. You see the 4 dots on each corner, tap on the dots and it will turn light blue. Then place your finger in the corner area to pull and straighten each corner. When you tap the center button, this will show the original photo. After you get to how you like the photo to the proportions to your liking, then save your photo.
So here is Boyce pulled at 4 corners, the max resolution save is 2313 x 3084. I have room to work with the resolution if I want to crop in any aspect ratio. It all depends on how you pull and straitened your photos to get the resolution you’re looking for. Not a lot of correction perspective apps offers the extra resolution to work with your photos, after the cut and straightening.
You can flip or change the directions of your photos too with SKEW.
Here’s your crop to fit your aspect ratios. At the moment there are some issues with the iPad support but not to worry, there will be an update of 1.0.2 coming out very soon. Over all this app is AWESOME in my opinion and gives SKWRT a run for it’s money for correction perspective apps for obvious reasons. I highly recommend you pick this app up. It’s worth having in your collection. Below I have other apps listed that Thirtyfive Inc. has to offer if you want to check them out.
