Happy New Year and welcome to the first product review of 2014 !!! The best way to kick off the New Year is with product from DCkina !!! With Apple changing the design and model details of the iPhone every 2 years, you have to wonder should I buy an Olloclip ? We all know that you have to buy a new Olloclip and that means you have to spend another $70. A friend of mine Julie Couch said, “Tina invest in good glass and not a new body. Technology is always going to change but glass won’t. A lot of photographers make the mistake that it’s the body that does the work but it’s the glass that gives you the true quality of your photos.” But instead we all including myself invest into a new iPhones instead of the Glass. So I’m looking for a lasting alternative so I don’t have to buy an new Olloclip every 1 to 2 years and I found two so far and more to come in future blog posts. The top photo is a a product called Cloth-Clip Wide (+Macro) + Fisheye Lenses for Camera Phones. This is a 3-in-1 lens clip system with a cloth pin type of attachment. This works with most smartphones, tables and other mobile devices with built-in cameras.
This is everything that’s included in the Cloth-Clip Wide (+Macro) + Fisheye Lenses for Camera Phones. You get fisheye lens attached to the cloth clip, a separate macro/wide angles lens, 2 lens caps and 1 black lens cloth back to store it.
I wanted to show you the actual clip part of the lens. As you can see there are pads on where you place the slip on your iPhone or iPad, so you don’t have to worry about the clip scratching up your iPhone. It’s fits on my iPhone really snug and stays in place better than one of the magnet fisheye/macro lens. I was really surprise about how solid the clip felt in my hand. For $19.50 (if the clip would break over time) I’d buy another one to replace it.
DCkina asked me if I could make a video of thier product so they could add it to thier video channel on You Tube. I’m not sure if they will like the video but I had fun making them on my iPhone and on a tripod. I did use their Tripod Buddy to hole my iPhone in place and worked really well for the demo. Here are the video demos I did with the Cloth Clip 3-in-1 lens, so you have an idea of how your photo would look or in this case you videos would look.
Now let’s look at the Clip N Slide Circular Polarizer (CPL) Filter Lens for Smartphones, another product I was actually impressed for the price ($7.95) with pleasing results. This is another clip filter and not lens. A filter is usually just one piece of glass that has been specially coated to give off special effect or in this case cut down glare while shooting with your camera. Usually a filter is threaded and will screw on top of a camera lens or is a bayonet type that will slide onto a hold that is screw at the end of a lens.
This is what you get with the Polarized filter pack, the filter clip, lens cap and a litle lens bag to carry your filter clip in on the go.
You can slide it up or down depending on where your camera lens is on your smartphone. This is why the filter is universal to most smartphones on the market and not just made for the iPhone. You can also turn the circular filter around to adjust how much filtration of light come through the filter.
I did a filtration test to see f I could cut down the glare your from the sun when taking picture above water. The Polarized Clip didn’t do to well on this test. Buy when you watch the video down below, you will see it does work well when taking landscape videos or photos.
Here’s a video demo of the Clip N Slide Circular Polarizer (CPL) Filter Lens for Smatphones, so you can see how it works. It did work well when taking this neighborhood video on the corner block. For the price of the Clip N Slide Circular Polarizer (CPL) Filter Lens for Smartphones, $7.95 you can’t really go wrong using this. It works well for what it does and that’s to cut down glare.
I got one of these Wired Shutter Remote Control Cable from DCkina. What I like about this was the price ($7.85), how the it felt in my hand and large enough so you don’t loose it. The cable is nylon and not rubberized plastic or plastic, so it makes the cable a lot more flexible and easy to wrap up and put away. The control button reminds me of a Wii Nunchuck attached to the Wii Remote. You can attached the Wired remote to your iPhone earphone jack and click on the button to take photos with it. So far the wired remote only works with the iPhone Camera app only, what I’m hoping is camera app developers will try to make this wired remote and other remotes compatible to work with their camera apps. I hardly use the iPhone Camera app to shoot photos. I’ll only use the app for shooting quick videos and that’s about it.
Next is the Tripod Buddy from DCkina, it’s one of their featured item on their website. It’s actually a really good product for what it does and has a really nice price of $2.75.
I tried the Tripod Buddy on my old iPhone 3G with a slim case on it. As you can see it fits pretty nicely and stays in place very well.
Even with my sister’s iPhone 4S with her Hello Kitty Case fits really well too. Now the Tripod buddy works with other smartphone such as, HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4. So if you want an in-expensive tripod mount, then the Tripod Buddy is the best way to go. It’s versatle, easy to pack away in your pocket or gear bag and reliable/well made product. You can’t beat that price of $2.75 either !!!
