Combo Apps Challenge Winners Part 1

20120105-101857.jpg

Today’s blog are about the four third place winner so the Combo Apps A1 Challenge. It was really hard for me pick winners for this challenge because I had a lot of great entries, but these photos stick out in my mind the most. All 4 of these people @mansibhatia, @wstairs, @lalygirl and @developit are very good at what they do when it comes to editing their iPhone photos. They take chances and have an editing style all their own. No one can copy or match their styles of creativity. One thing I have in common with these winner, we have the style of taking ordinary everyday things and turning them into works of art. They have the same way of seeing things that most people would pass by and/or wouldn’t take a second glance at. I will talk about each of their photos and the way they edit them. I highly recommend you follow these 4 people because they will change the way you see people, places and things.

Mansi

A Magical Night is the title of the photo up above and it taken and edited by Mansi Bhatia.
My 1st entry for @ashcroft54’s famous #comboapps_a1_challenge; used #rainydaze to add a rain effect to a normal tree picture taken on a sunny day; tuned the image selectively in #snapseed; then took it through #pictools dark color filter; proceeded to blend the snapseed image with the pictools image in #blender; and finally added a burst of light in #rays. Quite an #appsperiment and one that I enjoyed conducting.

The first person I wanted to talk about is Mansi Bhatia who I have a deep respect and a fan of her art work. We’ve been following each other for several months, I’m not exactly sure how we found one another on Instagram. But I’m glad we did find one another and follow each other work. She has a Flickr Group called iPhoneography: Before and After. Her group is about sharing your before shot and after edited iPhoneography photos. She loves to share how she edits her photos, also loves to learn about new apps and editing styles. She has a an editing style all on her own that no one can really match. When you see her iPhoneography work, you will know it’s Mansi’s. Mansi uses her iPhone and iPad for editing her works of art.

wstairs

Lonely Shadow photo was taken and edited by Wayman Stairs.
@ ] wstairs open original in #photowizard and mask off shadow. Select tools and blend images then place shadow in the middle of plain white landscape image. Hit check mark and select masking tool again. Mask off an oval at the base of the shadow so it looks like it’s standing on it. Hit the half/half square button so you just see the inside of the oval. Go to exposure contrast and slide the exposure and contrast bar all the way to the left. Now you have a black oval an a shadow on a white background! now go back to mask and mask off all the black pieces. Select effects and texture. Select texture 3 and slide bar all the way to the right. Save! Whew

Let’s talk about Wayman a little bit and editing style. We found one another when he pimped one of my photos. I thought he was really funny and very creative, something told me to follow him. We went back and fourth talking about different apps. I love his work and a huge fan. Who says a high school sports coach can’t be an artist ? He’s totally proved that theory wrong !!! That’s what I admire him most for is shaping young minds to work hard, play hard and it all pays off in the end. He’s one man you want on your side when things get tough and the chips are down. Wayman is one of the best sense of humor on Instagram with his editing. When I’m down and feeling a little depressed, I’ll go and look at his feed and just look at his work to make myself feel better. He has this amazing skill to cut and paste images like no one else on Instagram. Laughter is the best medicine and look at his amazing feed.

The apps and process to produce this image by Frances McLean

1 Camera+ Darken Polarize Crop

2 Photo Studio FX Color Fantasy
Burnt Colors

3 Squaready

4 Pixel Twister

5 Image Blender

I love this image for it’s sheer simplicity of the people just people at the sky deck. It’s a candid shot made with an artistic sense of editing. Frances has a amazing feed on Instagram. We talk to each other a lot of Kik back and fourth with makes it great since she lives in Australia. Not sure how we found each other, but I’ve made a great friend from Down Under. She’s an amazing woman who wants to develop apps in the future. I’m hoping she will develop an app that you can manual scratch and colorized your photos. We go back and fourth about editing photos and apps. Frances is the one you want to pick your brain with when it comes to iPhoneography. She’s a wealth of information and loves to share. Please check out her feed on Insatgram.

The last person I wanted to talk about is @lalygirl, she is the one who I’ve been following the longest. The reason why Combo Apps was born too. If you want to see her image you will have to click HERE. I will abide and respect her wishes of what she wants. I have a very deep fondness for her and her art work. I feel honored that she follows me on Instagram. She opened my eyes to the possibilities of editing with your iPhone over a year ago. Her work is so amazing and totally unmatched to anyone I’ve ever seen. Lalygirl still remains an enigma to me to this day, I don’t know her real name or anything really about her. We just follow each other and have chats on Instagram in the comment box. But I will say one great things about her is her loyalty for following me through Combo Apps and the blogs, I’m not the most popular person on Instagram but she goes out of way to stop by and look at my feed, asks me questions about apps and editing. I try my best to help her out if she has any questions about apps.

So those are all the third places winners of the Combo Apps A1 Challenge, please check out all those feeds. You will learn a lot from the 4 of them. They are the real mover and shakers on Instagram. This blog is about them, so I won’t be plugging myself at the end as normal.
