My name is Tina Rice. Basically I’m a struggling photographer, who trying to make it in the world of photography. It took me a long time to realized I was actually good at taking pictures. The blogs are supposed to help me connect with other struggling photographers, photo enthusiasts, semi-pro and even PROS. Plus I would like other non photographers out there to talk about their issues or whatever that pops in their head. In time I’m hoping more people will come and read my blogs and leave comment.
The wake up call for me up is my job. I work at Target in the photo lab. I’ve been there too long, will not ever get promoted and doomed to work in the photo lab. The more I try to get out of working in the photo lab. The more reason they try to find to keep me there. The last straw was getting a final write-up, so I can be forever stuck in the dreaded corner.
Photography has been a huge outlet for me through the years. It’s starts back 14 years ago at Grossmont College and taking my first photo class. I’ve taken photo classes there off and on. The last classes I took there was the Digital photo 1 & 2. After taking that and my friend turning me onto Flickr over 3 years ago, haven’t been back to Grossmont since. I’ve learned more digitally on Flickr than I did taking the 2 digital classes. It hard to get a good digital education, because a lot of the teachers are either stuck on film or don’t have the information needed to teach digital properly. Over the year I gradually went over to the digital side. Now that I’m totally a digital photographer, I won’t even touch film or shoot film. Don’t get me wrong I used to dislike digital and was dead against it. Slowly over time I could see the vast improvements that digital photography has to offer. It started with a Canon A70 point & shoot to now a Canon 40D DSLR with interchangable lenses. I’m hoping int he future to buy a Canon 5D Mark II Full Frame body. Then I’ll feel like I have a PRO Camera.
People have complained that digital is too easy and anyone can take pictures now and not put a lot of effort in it. The irony of all this is photography has always gotten a bad rap. It goes back to 1839 when photography was introduced to the world. Painters complain that it would take painting and art away from real artist. Now digital has the same bad rap like film did over 150 years later. And the other irony is you can paint on computer screens with a light pen…who knew…What would Van Gogh and Monet say in today’s world of art !?!?! For me photography and painting are the same a way, they both have the same rules. Primary colors, rules of three, framing, negative and positive space, one point perspective, lines, hues, values, zone system. Pretty much the same thing but different vocabulary. That what I did with digital, took everything I knew from film and applied it digitally and new vocabulary.
My goal is to try to blog about everything and anything photography. I also have another category for things that pop up in my life too. Please check out my blogs and leave comments, opinions and anything else that you think is important. I need all the help I can get…
